Product Reviews

Take your wake-up music out of the hands of DJs and create your own morning soundtrack with this jWin CD clock radio. Compatible with CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs, the JL-CD811 plays both prerecorded and custom-burned albums, so you can build song compilations on your computer and listen to them through the radio's side speakers. As an alternative, you can turn to the digital AM/FM tuner to enjoy such standbys as NPR, talk radio news, and drive-time morning hosts, or simply set the alarm to sound an old-school buzzer each morning. And thanks to such CD playback options as repeat (one and all tracks) and random play, the device excels in non-alarm locations as well, such as in kitchens or garages. All this in a stylish, modern housing that takes up a minimum of space (the device measures 8.66 by 3.31 by 7.86 inches).

Additional features include a dual alarm function, which sounds two different alarms each morning so users can wake up on their own schedules; an easy-to-read oversized LCD screen; an adjustable sleep timer (59 minutes maximum); and a snooze alarm. The device runs on AC power but includes a 9-volt battery backup that preserves the settings should the power fail.

What's in the Box
JL-CD811 clock radio, user's manual.

bright, poor audio quality, did i say BRIGHT
even though this radio is cheap, I still expected something, anything, and what I got is an extra bright night light that keeps my gf up, and as a consequence i'm looking for another decent alarm. Did i mention it runs slow for me? It slows about 1 min per day, which is not a good feature in an alarm clock

Useless
Don't buy this alarm clock! This CD alarm clock was a huge disappointment for me.

Things I like about this clock:

1. Big snooze button
2. Styling is decent

Things I hate about this clock:

1. Illegible in the dark -- the portions of the display AROUND the numbers are so bright that there isn't enough contrast between the "background" and the numbers. As a result, the numbers are illegible at night.

2. Blindingly bright in the dark -- Even on the "dim" setting, the display will blind you if you try to view it in the dark.

3. The labels for the various alarm settings (on, off, auto, buzzer) are misaligned with the slider switch that controls them. When you adjust the switch to the "on" position, the alarm is actually off. When you adjust the switch to the "off" position, the alarm is actually on "auto", etc. A nightmare.

4. The alarm functions are ridiculously complicated to set. Want to wake up to the sound of your favorite CD? Be sure to keep handy the owner's manual to remind you of the seven-step procedure you need to follow to set the alarm to play a CD.

Not worth the money. Not worth any money, in fact. It's on its way to the Salvation Army.

Display could be better
The clock display does not match the photo above. The dark (background) area is actually lit up (a darker blue than the clock numerals) and it lights up the entire room at night. Audio quality is loud and clear, pretty good for the price.

P-E-R-F-E-C-T !!
We bought the BLUE version of this for my son on his 5th birthday and cannot tell you how much he loves it. My son wanted a Disney Cars version, which was more expensive and a piece of junk... this goes well with the artwork from that movie- and is a much better investment for our money. He LOVED it. He has had it for about 6 months and it has been his most prized possession ever since.
The alarm feature is nice and the fact that this will easily grow with him into adulthood.
The sound quality is excellent, it is simple to use and very well designed. Any product that can stand up to frequent unsupervised use by my child gets a big thumbs up for quality and durability.
The most striking feature of this radio though, is its design. It gets a lot of attention from visitors. It is a really cool item for anyone's bedside.
Great gift idea- any little boy would be fascinated by this- and encouraged to discover music. Great idea for an adult as well. I'd personally love the pink one.

Not recommended
Item emitted a burning smell within minutes of plugging the item in. CD player stopped working too...

Darling CD player
Gift for my youngest granddaughter. This is a funky, cute player and she listens to it as she goes to sleep at night.

Beware of the back light!
This product has a 2-way switch on the back for the "back light" control. It's suppose to be Bright/Dim, but it should be labeled Bright/Brighter.

If you need anything approaching a dark bedroom, avoid this product.

If you can sleep in any light, go for it -- everything else did work as advertised.

PS - This appears to be the same unit as the "SS-6000".

Great CD alarm clock but WAY too bright
This is my second attempt in buying a CD alarm clock and I do not understand why the manufacturers make the LCD so bright! Even on its dimmest setting, this clock illuminates my room and makes it difficult to sleep. Additionally, the projection feature is too bright even when I've covered the LCD. I'm trying to find a creative solution because it's too much of a hassle to return.

I gave this alarm clock 3 stars because the sound quality is good and I like the nature sound options. I would be entirely happy with it if it weren't for the brightness. It's a great option for a child's room or anywhere light isn't a problem.

Cool product
I love all but one thing about this Sound Spa...the display is way too bright even on the "dim" setting. I sleep with a washcloth over it! Not very handy for checking on the time when you wake up in the middle of the night!
The sounds are great & you can listen to them all night or set a timer to shut them up.

Caller ID announce doesn't work as advertised
I thought if I entered in the name of unidentified callers (not blocked, but cell phone calls that only show the number and not the name) that it would display or announce them correctly when the person subsequently called. Not. It still says unavailable (again, it's NOT blocked), and just announces "you have a call." (Duh, I know that--the phone is ringing.) When I try to enter the name into the phone book from the caller ID log after the person calls, it takes the entry, but it doesn't "stick" and the next time the person calls, it's the same thing--unavailable, you have a call. Since that's the only reason I bought this phone, I'm very disappointed. I wouldn't have bought it if it weren't for Timex's good name. Shame on them.

We are pleased.
I bought this radio as a Christmas present for an office mate. I wanted something small and not too expensive since in an office building things can disapear. The reception in the building is ususaly not so good and that was a concern. Three months later I am happy to report that this one works fine. We have had no problems with the radio or the CD player.

Very Disappointed
My wife purchased this alarm clock for me for Christmas 2007. It is the second piece of Coby electronic equipment that I've owned. My experience is that Coby builds extremely CHEAP (meaning, poor quality) products. My complaints with this product are:

1) The product does not keep accurate time (gains about 7-8 minutes per month - most likely an electronics design flaw that recurs in each of these alarm clocks).
2) The product "hums" through the speakers (a short in the internal electronics due to poor circuit board design - also a design flaw that probably recurs in each of these alarm clocks). Interestingly, when the product is powered ON, like when the user wants to listen to a CD but hasn't yet hit the play button, the humming quits. BUT, if the unit is left ON accidentally, the alarm does NOT work. I know. I powered the unit ON to get the annoying humming to stop and was late to work the next day because the alarm never sounded.
3) CD door is overly difficult to open and close (a coefficient of friction design flaw that is also recurring, probably).
4) The LED display is overly bright and no dimmer switch is featured (yet another design flaw).
5) All plastic parts are extremely cheap. White plastic cabinet parts are not the same color of white (do not match). Silver paint on buttons will obviously soon wear off, etc.

While this alarm clock had all of the features that I was looking for in an alarm clock (except for the dimmer switch), the aforementioned list of design flaws forced me to return the product as defective. Bottom line: VERY CHEAPLY BUILT!

A GREAT CD player/alarm clock!
I bought this for my husband for our anniversary. He had an old alarm clock that was hard to set. This one is great. Simple to use, to set, to play, everything is marked very clearly. I get up half an hour earlier than he does, so it is fantastic to have a dual alarm. We wake up to a CD. It also sounds great! We can listen to our CD's without having an extra CD player taking up room. I have had no problems with it at all!!

Laughably bad
This is such a bad product. I seriously want my money back, but it's not even worth the hassle. Luckily, I decided to use it as my CD player in my bedroom, and not as an alarm clock. I keep this thing all the way across the bedroom from my bed, and I STILL have to drape heavy clothing over it every night in order to be able to sleep, and I am NOT a sensitive sleeper. The display is so freakishly bright, it actually illuminates my entire (rather large) bedroom with it's horrible blue glow. There's some garbage about an "automatic dimmer" in the description of this product, but that is pure bull. It's supposed to dim when the lights go out, but if anything, it actually gets brighter. I cannot imagine how anyone can sleep with this next to their beds. Furthermore, what's the point of the horrifically bright time display if you can't ever read the time unless you're facing it directly face-on, and about an inch from the display? Whoever designed this is an idiot, as the bright blue background almost completely obscures the black numbers that show the time. The colors are too close in tone or brightness for there to be enough contrast to read what the display says.

Another problem, and this one is even "funnier" than the aforementioned: as we speak, my month-old Emerson clock-radio is speeding through the time, literally. It has some weird tick, where, if you use the remote control to control the volume, it affects the minutes part of the time as well as the volume. If you hold down the up or down volume buttons for any amount of time, the minutes start freaking out uncontrollably. For instance, as I write, my clock is going through 11 am over and over and over again at warp speed. It would be funny if I didn't pay for this piece of garbage.

All of that being said, the CD player in my experience is serviceable. Mine plays burned CDs as well as normal ones. The sound quality is decent for such a small player.

If you are thinking of getting this as a clock or alarm, please think carefully: the screwed up volume-time function, the horribly bright display, and the almost complete lack of contrast between the time digits and background make this virtually unuseable as an alarm clock.

There isn't 4.5 stars
Well, I just bought this today, and I loved it ever since I've had it. Blue lighting, auto dimmer, so many options. This was the cheapest I found with the standards I had (digital tuning, CD player, etc.) The remote is very useful, but too bad they don't save the radio stations (have to tune every time). But they do save the order of how you want your tracks to be played on your CD. The motorized door is such a special thing. The themal snooze is also sweet, so you don't have to find the snooze button to keep on sleeping. I did find it hard to use set the minutes and hours for the alarm and clock (hit one accidentally). But, the light on the side of the glass makes up for all of that (it looks so cool...) Pros: Digital FM/AM radio Motorized door to play CD Auto Dimmer CD-RW player Thermal snooze 2 3 inch speakers 2 antennas (for AM and FM) Memory for track order Cons: Confusing for setting time and alarm Small wire is antenna for FM radio No saved radio stations Knob used for tuning Have to hit the alarm off button after snooze (probably standard for all alarm clocks) If they had saved radio stations, I would've given this a 5. Its kind of a hassle using the knob to get to the exact station.

BRIGHT LIGHT!
The only thing I have to complain about my new alarm clock is the display. It is WAY too bright, more of a night-light than an alarm clock display. Also, the numbers are hard to see from an angle. But I bought the product for it's touchless snooze, which I've looked for to replace my circa 1985 SounDesign alarm clock with. It took me several years, and many alarm clock purchases to find one I'm happy with. The controls are easy to figure out, and it has great sound, so I'm satisfied. I think I'll find some window-tint film to put over the alarm clock display.

a good find
I really enjoy the touch face front and the blue back glow of the clock. I also like that the light is off unless the interface is touched. The alarm is great since it gives accelerating beeps instead of an annoying honk or a fuzzy radio. I also love that it gives the temp outside so I know how to dress in the morning for my run instead of running downstairs to check out the weather. It is a great find. The packaging was also very good and delivery was quick.

The (almost) perfect alarm clock
After having tried several "atomic time" clock radios and alarm clocks, I have finally found what is for me a nearly perfect unit.

The clock easily synchs up with the time signal from WWVB, even during the daytime, when many other units can't (assuming you orient the antenna properly).

The digitally tuned radio works well on both AM and FM, being one of the few radios that I have tried that doesn't get swamped by the nearby radio towers.

A big plus on the alarm clock feature is that you can set the alarm to a particular station and volume, and then go to sleep with the radio set for a different station and volume. So you can go to sleep with a classical station on a low volume and wake up to a news station on a very loud volume.

Even without the HiGlo turned on, the display is very high contrast and easy to read in even moderately dim light.

I happen to prefer that the HiGlo isn't on full-time, since I try to avoid light pollution in my bedroom at night (several medical studies have shown surprising health differences that seem to be related to the light levels during sleep!).

Some people have complained that the surface touch controls are too sensitive. I have not found that to be the case. The unit locks out the controls after one minute, so you have to touch a control twice in order activate it. As long as the clock is left on a table or dresser, this prevents accidental changes quite adequately. The only way this could be a problem was if someone was to pick up the clock and hold it in their hand such that they were bumping one of the controls.

Only three minor changes that prevent this from being perfect.

The first is that when set to wake to buzzer instead of radio, the clock only beeps for two minutes (albeit quite loudly in an increasingly annoying pattern) before giving up. Since I wake to radio, which plays for two hours, this isn't a problem for me.

Another feature that could use improvement would be a switch to toggle the HiGlo between its current behavior and being on full time (although this would throw off the accuracy of the inside temperature reading due to heat generation).

The only thing on the unit that I could call a real flaw is the lack of having a backup battery. The unit will hold its settings for several seconds during a brief outage, but if the outage lasts longer than that all settings (saved stations, alarm time) are lost. The clock will reset itself from WWVB once power is restored, but you will have to reprogram your favorite stations and reset your wake-up time.

Seriously Flawed Design
I got this clock as a Christmas gift, now I have to contact the giver to find out where to return this. I was excited at first, till I tested it.

There is one serious flaw that alone is enough not to buy. This clock does not save your settings in case of loss of power! That makes it useless as an alarm clock. I tested by disconnecting power for only 10 seconds. My timezone setting and alarm settings were erased. I confirmed with the company's tech support. So, if the power goes out for a few minutes at night during a snowstorm: The alarm won't go off. When I wake up the clock will be displaying Pacific time(not my time zone), and I will get to work rather late.

My old alarm clock didn't set itself, but I had the option of putting in a battery for backup so the alarm would still go off in the morning after a power outage. If a battery wasn't in, you wake up to the dreaded flashing 12:00 and know you have to get up and find your watch. With the BARM699A, it sets itself back to Pacific time and pretends nothing happened.

inexpensive table radio
If you're like me you've been looking at table radio's and wondering if there is such a thing anymore as a reasonably priced one. I happened upon this one for a good price and thought I'd give it a shot.

First I'll start this review on a positive note by saying the unit looks very nice. Although, the face is entirely made of plastic, it looks very much like an expensive piece of aluminum. The sound quality of this unit is not bad at all. In fact, when I first bought it I was listening in a noisy environment and thought, wow, I actually got a great deal! FM reception is pretty good and it does have an external wire antenna. The controls feel good and the tuning is geared down so that you can tune with precision feel. It's usefulness as a clock radio is questionable. The controls are on the back. However, it is nice as a "radio with a clock". The clock shows the time, month, day and day of the week.

Ugliness reared it's head the first time I turned this unit on in a quiet environment. It has a horrible hum that is very pronounced. This hum is at a constant level. The louder you make the music, the less you notice the hum. So, when listening in a quiet environment the hum is very bad.

Did I just happen to get a bad unit? Maybe. If you find that your unit doesn't have the hum problem please posts here as I wouldn't mind buying another one if I knew the hum wouldn't be a problem. I actually spent an evening taking mine apart, removing the built-in AC supply, and wiring it to an external "wall wart" type 12v dc power supply. Without the hum problem it's a nice unit.

You get what you pay for
This radio has a good sound for a small room like a bath room. However with all the technology they put into this radio, they put the worst volume & radio dial I've ever seen. It's loaded with sticky grease and breaks easy. If they would upgrade to better switches, this would be a nice radio. Ive had 2 of these units and both of them had faulty on/off volume knobs. The first one lasted for about a year before it broke while turning it off. The other was broken right of the box. There won't be a third. If you want something that will last, pay the extra money for a better brand of radio and save yourself the agravation.

Sentry radio
Problems as soon as I opened it. Clock did not light. Instructions said push reset button on back. There isn't one. Am /fm aux switch has to be coaxed on each selection to make proper contact. Mp3 player wouldn't work when attached to unit. This isn't a clock radio. It's a radio with a cheap digital clock and an alarm. No wake up music. Company is replacing whole unit.....without postage on my part. Expect, however, will eventually ask for refund. Don't buy this unit.

Great Little Alarm Clock!
I was looking for a small, pretty basic alarm clock and so glad I found the Equity 30330 because it suits my needs perfectly. I didn't want one with all the bells and whistles, my husband has had one like that on his side of the bed for 6 years and I still can't figure out how to work it. Some must haves for me were that it be cordless, and especially had a display light that wouldn't bother me when I was going to sleep (not too bright). Seems to me from reading some other reviews that this is a common issue with people. For me, the little lights on my DVD player even bother me so I was very hesitant to order any alarm clock online without seeing it in person but I'm very glad I took a shot. This nifty clock is just perfect for me, the display is dim (soothing on the eyes), not too dim that I can't read it but rather just perfect where it doesn't bother me at all when I go to sleep (I believe this is what they are referring to in the description as "nightvision"). It also has a display sensor where if you wave your hand over the snooze button, the display will temporarily light up much brighter (LOVE this feature). It's so easy to set and has not failed me even once. I LOVE the snooze because it will just keep going off until I finally get out of bed, my last alarm clock would snooze 2x and then turn off (of course I would still be sleeping after it turned off...not good). Not much else to say about this clock other than for $13.00 I'm very happy with it. Is it fancy? no but it is rather contemporary looking as opposed to many others I've seen. Basically, I'm up and on time every day, can't ask for more than that. I would definitely purchase this again and highly recommend it.

perfect size alarm clock, easy to set, great price!
I prefer a digital clock because the "tick tick tick" of an analog clock keeps me awake sometimes. I prefer not having an EMF-emitting device by my head all night -- however weak the emissions -- so I don't use a clock radio. This little digital clock is almost perfect! It's a great silvery blue, very appealing. It has a nice round size that fits comfortably in the hand. It is VERY easy to set, even when you're sleepy. Some digital devices require a handbook to figure out. This is completely intuitive. The numbers are sized big enough to read easily. My only issue is the light feature that is bright at night and dim in the daytime. I would prefer being able to activate the light feature myself when I want to see the time, rather than have it glow all night long.

Inexpensive alarm clock
I have used this alarm clock for a few weeks now, and it serves its purpose well - a simple battery operated alarm clock with an easy-to-read display. The display illuminates automatically when the room gets dark enough. It seems quite bright to me at night, but I would rather have that than not be able to read it. During the day, it is not really that easy to read, but activating the snooze button will illuminate the display. It is very easy to set, and the alarm is actually one of the most pleasant ones I have heard. It starts out low and builds as time goes by. I don't know how loud it gets because I hit snooze fairly quickly. The description says it uses a 9-volt battery, but mine uses 3 AA batteries. The only problem I have had with it is that the battery cover has come off a few times for no apparent reason. It is made in China and of cheap plastic, and I don't think it could withstand much abuse. Time will tell about battery life and durability.

Can't break it
I have dropped this thing on the floor, stepped on it, spilled water all over it. I lost the back and the batteries were held in by masking tape and it still worked. Simple, but effective.

4 minute snooze & more
I didn't see this anywhere before I bought this item, but it only snoozes for 4 minutes. It has an annoying alarm that is sure to wake and irritate you and when you press snooze (or turn on the night light) it emits a high pitch whine that is sure to drive away dogs. It has a single alarm that is easy to set. It is small and folds up for travel.

Great Little Alarm Clock
Nice, uncomplicated, functional travel alarm clock. First of all, the package was EASY to open -- doesn't require a hacksaw and axe, like most packages do these days. Secondly, the instructions were written in CLEAR ENGLISH -- not weird unintelligible international symbols and directions in ten different languages with the English being butchered beyond comprehension. And thirdly, the clock is simple to set up and operate. Very user-friendly. Does what it says it's going to do. Alarm starts off softly then gets more frantic as seconds tick by and you haven't turned it off -- perfect for my waking-up habits. It's the right size -- very compact -- has a nice big display, big snooze button -- all in all, about as perfect as a product can be. My compliments to Elgin.

This clock requires one AA battery (not included) and comes with Sharp's two-year limited warranty.

Need manual to use
Clock itself is decent, except very hard to figure out w/o manual. For those who have lost manual, below may be helpful:

SETTING THE TIME ZONE
* In the Normal Time Display, press the [MODE] key to enter
the Alarm Time Mode.
* Press the [SET] key to set the desired time zone.
* Press the [MODE] to return to the time mode position.

SETTING THE ALARM
* While in the normal time display mode, press [MODE]
button to enter the alarm time mode, the letters "AL" will
appear on the display.
* Hold the [SET] hotton for 2 seconds until the hour digit
flashes, then release the [SET] button.
* Press the [ADJUST] button to set the desired hour.
* Press the [SET] button again. The minute digits will begin
to flash.
* Press the [ADJUST] button key to change the minutes.
* Press the mode button once.
* To activate the alarm, press the [ADJUST] button and the
bell indicator will appear.
* Press the [ADJUST] button again to activate the snooze
and the snooze indicator will appear.
* To deactivate the alarm and snooze, press the [ADJUST]
button until both indicators disappear.
Press the [MODE] button to exit the alarm setting mode.

This personal atomic clock works great for me
I have read other reviews, but to the contrary, I now have 3 of them around various places in my home, ie. bathroom, desk & now the laundry room. They all were able to sync up with the appropriate time, however gettting out of daylight saving time, one did not shift the time zone. Which brought me to buy this 3rd one with instructions. Which said to change the zone you hit mode, set (change the zone), and then mode again. Pretty easy. Then I hit recieve and we're all good. It's nice to have accuracy if that's what you're into. Nice personal clock.

Soft alarm, not good for heavy sleepers
The alarm on this clock is a medium-soft beeping. It is not quite loud enough to wake a deep sleeper. If I'm on the end of a sleep cycle or ready to wake up, it's just barely enough to alert me. Also, the "light" function is grossly inadequate, so don't expect to check the time in the middle of the night without an additional light source. Only the far right edge of the clock face is illuminated by the tiny, tiny light.

It's nice not to be blasted out of bed in the morning, but don't count on the soft alarm if you're a habitual oversleeper. Also, it took a couple turns with the instructions to figure out how to make the alarm turn off after just one cycle of beeping. You EITHER get to have a snooze function OR have the alarm turn off immediately, but not both. You have to choose ahead of time what you want your morning experience to be like.

After knocking this little clock off my bedside table one night, I discovered that the alarm turns itself off after 60 seconds of beeping. Although I'm sure that feature was engineered to conserve battery power, it's also convenient if you're a little too lazy to jump out of bed first thing to fetch it off the floor.

This item takes one alkaline AA battery, which is good if you are subject to periodic power outages or brownouts, since there is no resetting required in those instances. AAs are also cheaper and easier to find than button batteries if your clock lives long enough to need a replacement.

My clock does not pick up the time-setting signal in northern Indiana. This is a big disappointment, because never having to set the time again was the main reason I picked out this alarm clock over the other ones in the store. Given the lack of the major advertised function and the non-intuitive layout for adjustments (keep those instructions!) I would probably not buy the same clock again.

Returned after one night
I was quite disappointed with this clock radio, meant to be a replacement for my 25+year-old GE. It was too light-weight (I'm sure the cats would have had it on the floor given a day or two), and the radio was dreadful. The buttons were cheesy (guess that means they didn't feel good) and -- well, suffice it to say that I initiated a return the very next day and ordered the RCA RP5400 Smart Snooze Dual Wake AM/FM Clock Radio instead - it's a keeper. VERY nice machine ...
I have finally come full-circle: I started with a Sony DreamMachine about 10 years ago, and after going through a couple of other brands/configurations, I'm finally back to a Sony.

This is a nice unit -- decent sound, OK radio reception, good CD player, great features. Although the color is listed as "white," it's really more of a light putty color, very pale gray.

The biggest advantage of this unit over others I've tried is EASE OF USE and set-up. The "owner's manual" is small because everything is so straightforward and easy to find/operate.

Initial set-up takes less than a second: the clock arrives preset to the correct time in EST; all you do is set the time zone by hitting the button marked "time zone," and voilà -- the correct time pops in. Setting the alarm is also easy - took less than a minute to get it ready to go.

There are three light settings: really bright, reasonably bright, and backlight only, controlled via the "snooze" bar. The snooze gives you 10 minutes additional sleep time -- my last unit was 9 minutes, and I've had others with as few as 6 minutes. Ten "feels" just right to me. I can fall asleep to a CD, and wake to the "buzzer," which isn't really a buzzer at all -- more like a "chirp" that gradually gets louder, another nice feature. There's also a "nap" feature -- set it to your desired nap length, and it will wake you up without disturbing your alarm setting.

And, best of all, unlike other Sony models, this one has battery backup! If there's a power outage, you're safe. This is a big thing for me -- we have power outages 3-4 times each winter.

Very nice unit, well worth the money.

Sony Stereo CD Clock Radio--best I could find
After viewing other reviews, I decided to purchase one and am not sorry that I did. It is the best alarm/clock/radio/CD player I've ever had...

Positive notes:
1) The speakers are much better quality than I expected;
2) The two alarm settings are super easy to set and turn on and off;
3) The alarm is a sort of short beep that starts very soft and gets louder the longer you let it go -- I really like this feature because my other alarm clock made me jump when it came on.
4) Backup battery in case of power failure (a must in my country home)
5) Adjustable background lighting via the snooze bar -- some complained it kept them awake, which made me wonder if they know it is adjustable; when you first plug it in, it is set on the brightest setting. I didn't find the lowest setting bothersome at all and loved that I could easily make it super-bright if I wanted to try to find something without turning on a light
6) A nice large snooze button that you can't miss even with your eyes closed, and the display shows you how many snooze minutes it is set for
6) I can plug-in my MP3 player, which is a nice plus

I only had a couple "I wish it had/could" items:
1) a plug-in for headphones
2) a way to play a CD over and over for a certain period of time because I like to listen to my nature sounds CDs longer than the length of the CD -- if it has this function I missed it;
3) the reception of the radio isn't excellent -- it fades in and out sometimes, but its better than other clock radios that I've had

Top quality bedside alarm system
This cool looking alarm does exactly what I want an alarm to do. I can go to sleep listening to a CD or radio and wake to CD, radio or alarm. I haven't tried the MP3 connection yet but that offers me another option. I live in a "fringe" FM signal area and the included wire antenna brings a reception as good as any other I've tried.
Sound quality is better then most FM/AM radio alarms I've used. I like the option of falling asleep using one sound source and waken by another source. Two different alarm settings is a very useful feature. Three levels of lighting are available, the brightest will light up a room! The back light alone is more light then I want. It would be nice if that could be lowered or turned off. After much searching, this alarm is the best I have investigated, with the most useful features.

Good Looks only..
I purchased this for taking to India - the specifications indicate that it works in 240V as well 110V. It works alright.. but the time keeps falling behind by 5 minutes every day.

Coby CRA54BLK Digital AM/FM Alarm/Clock Radio
Good alarm clock for a good price. The added in feature where you can input your own music is quite handy. Overall you cant go wrong with this product.

It's a $10.00 Clock Radio and It Performs like a $10.00 Clock Radio
Pros: It looks really good on the shelf, keeps time well, the buttons and dials are solid, the slide tuning dial and volume dial work well and the sound is pretty good.

Cons: AM and FM reception are sub par and without digital tuning stations are hard to precisely tune in to.

Overall: Ok for a $10.00 clock radio but just ok.

Will destroy your CDs
It won't play even BRAND NEW mint condition CDs (they just skip). And, to my horror, when you take the CDs out there are big circular scratches around them. I lost two good CDs thanks to this piece of garbage. This "CD Clock Radio" is the worst purchase I have ever made. AVOID!

Totally unreliable
I bought this piece of garbage less than a month ago, threw away the box and have been very upset since. The directions say to insert a battery because the unit is very sensitive to power blips. The time is totally wrong most of the time! My old clock was plugged into the exact same outlet and I had no problem with it. I have changed batteries three times and still no luck. Also, there is no way to wake up to "random" playing on the cd, so every morning I wake up to the same notes from the first song. I wouldn't buy this if I were you. I can't return it (they want $9 for postage and I don't have the box), so I am out of luck and wasted my money.

Bad on many levels!
Bought this clock because I wanted one I could wake up to a CD. This one was the wrong choice! The clock is fast and requires resetting every couple days, the buttons are too small to find in the dark and the light is much too bright. For the cost of this clock, spend the extra $5 and get one that works.

Great combo of features
This is for my 7 yr old daughter's room. Just what we wanted for her, with the CD player and clock radio. Not high quality but good quality for the price. There is a wire antenna attached whick makes it easier to pick up radio stations compared to most clock radios. CD player works good and easy enough for 7 yr old to use.
Would definately recommend.

Hello Kitty CD Clock Radio
It pleased my 9 year old granddaughter, so it was fine. She is
too young for an iPod, she still likes Hello Kitty,
and she can listen to stories while she is in her room.

Charge and Play Your iPod and iPhone
The iMM173 features two integrated docks that give you the option of charging up to two iPods and/or iPhones. Do this while you're sleeping, and when it's time to wake up, not only will your devices be fully charged, but you also can wake up to your favorite tunes.

And thanks to the system's powerful built-in speakers and jAura acoustic speaker technology, you'll get sound with depth and clarity that belies its small size, making this bedside clock ideal for the kitchen or other room in your house as well. Note: iPhones can be charged on both docks, but only one will be fully compatible while the other will show "airplane mode."

FM Radio, Remote Control, and Line-in Aux Port
If you'd like to listen to the news, weather, or the latest radio hits, the iMM173's built-in FM radio uses PLL digital tuning technology to ensure crystal-clear reception. The radio offers eight programmable presets, so your favorite stations are only a button-push away.

Or, connect another source--like the iPod shuffle, portable CD players, or other MP3 players--using the auxiliary line input. A remote control lets you operate the iMM173 from across the room, and a handy magnet on the back of the unit holds the remote when not in use.

Large, Bright Display with Dual Alarm Clocks
The iMM173 features a large easy-to-read LCD with a 10-level dimmer that lets you turn down the brightness at night when it's time to sleep. The time is easy to set, and a simple switch lets you change between standard and daylight savings time.

Almost Perfect - EDITED
I was afraid that the iLuv Dual Dock would be too large for my end-table but it is the perfect size. I was also relieved to confirm that both docks will play and charge the 3G iPhone and newest iPods. The build quality is very high and the glossy plastic looks great but it is also a fingerprint magnet and hard to keep clean.

The reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars is because I disagree with the other two reviews before mine that state that the sound quality was great. I think it sounds rather poor. I would rate the sound a 3 out of 5 at best. If I was using this for listening to music I'd send it back. It sound nothing even close to the Bose and Altec-Lansing iPod speakers i've listened to. Luckily I'm only using it as a clock, alarm and for listening to podcasts.

Note: It also comes with a nice remote that attaches to the back with a built in magnet.

EDITED:
Since posting the review I've had the iLuv "crash", "lock up", "freeze" a few times. I need to be able to rely on my alarm and this is a real problem. The clock stays showing the time of the crash and all buttons stop functinoing. I have to power cycle the clock to get it going again. I'm going to call iLuv and see what they can do for me.

Useless
The features of this product are great...the problem is the clock constantly freezes and/or locks up. Twice the alarm did not go off because the clock had frozen. I returned the product for a replacement thinking maybe I got a dud. Well the replacement does the same thing. So I emailed the company to see what could be done. Three suggestions were given:

1. Make sure you are using the iPhone dock adapter (well duh)
2. Turn the power off before inserting the phone (well ok but not sure how this would help the clock freezing in the future...it wasn't freezing when I was putting the phone in).
3. Power cycle the clock to reset...(ok I do this EVERY time it freezes).

So bottom line works great to listen to music...but if you need a clock or an alarm (which is probably why you are looking at an ALARM CLOCK) then this is unreliable and completely useless...just like the company's support.

Make SURE that it is version 1.1 or later!
I, like others that have mentioned so here, had a lot of problems with my original unit. It constantly froze when I connected my iPhone3G, or I would get the dreaded "Accessory not compatible" message on my iPhone screen. I put up with this for about a week before I contacted iLuv about the problem(s).
To their credit, they handled the issue very professionally. iLuv/jWin utilizes an online-only support system, which I was a little sceptical about at first. When it comes to product support and returns, I would usually rather speak with a live person. However, the iLuv system is more like a blog where you can log in and see the status/comments associated with your trouble ticket, and any questions or comments I had were always answered within an hour. Not bad at all.
What ended up happening is that iLuv sent me a brand new updated unit that was labeled as "Version 1.1" (and even had a new "Time Sync" feature that keeps the time between your phone and clock synced at all times - very handy. I didn't even have to set the clock initially - it just took the time from the phone). The end result is that I have had the new unit for a week now and not one issue. The bottom line - if you are having problems, contact iLuv. If you have version 1.0 of the product and are having problems with the iPhone3G, they will make it right.

Product Reviews

Very nice alarm clock for the money, good value
What differentiates this alarm clock from the others? Quite a few things separate this clock from most of the pack. I have listed the noteworthy features of this clock below:

1. The battery backup assures you won't oversleep

2. There is a battery indicator so you know when to change the battery backup

3. You never need to reset the time when the power goes out. The clock is preset at the factor and has the correct time when you plug it in. You select from the following time zones (Atlantic, Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific, Alaskan, or Hawaiian)

4. You can set the clock for day light savings time and make leap year adjustments to keep the time and week on track

5. You can set the clock to have different times during the week and weekend all at one time

6. There is a dual alarm feature

7. There are many different options for what you will wake up to (Radio, Nature Sounds, or Buzzer)

8. You can adjust the illumination on the face if you like a dark room or a bright display

9. Four nature sounds (Ocean Surf, Birds, Brook, or Wind Chimes)

10. There is a timer that will turn off the nature sounds or radio in either 90, 60, 30 or 15 minutes so that you can fall asleep to sound

11. You can preset 18 radio stations

For the money, this is a nice alarm clock.

Difficult to use Junk
1. Very hard to set, you must read poor instruction manual carefully. I've had to dig out the instructions several times as near impossible to just look at clock then set.

2. I work rotating shift work so have to change alarm times often, takes a long time to move alarm.

3. Has 3 levels of back light on face, even on low setting the light is to bright so have to keep clock facing away from me.

4. Has radio, but again difficult to use, so I use nature/buzz alarm only.

Now the bad stuff, worked OK for about 2 months but now:

1. Power button won't work so can't turn radio on.

2. The dimmer/snooze button works for snooze but I can no longer cycle through the 3 different light levels.

3. All 4 nature sounds are gone, when set they sound BUZZ alarm only.

I've unplugged unit & pulled BATT's hoping to get unit to reset itself, but no luck. I'm very dissapointed with Timex. Very poor design. Poor quality. I will replace clock with a different brand.

Very disappointing
I bought one of these as I really liked the way it looked, and for the nature sound feature.

It takes a bit of effort to set the settings, as the instructions are confusing, at best.

The main problem, and the reason I will never buy a Timex clock radio again, is that after a few months, the volume began to get lower and lower, and the volume thumbwheel no longer worked, eventually, no sound at all. The clock worked fine.

I called SDI and they were willing to replace it if I sent in the deffective unit, but when I weighed the cost of shipping, etc, it was'nt worth it.

I called and expalined the problem to SDI Tech help, and they said they had no idea how this could happen.

Believe it or not, I bought another one, because I liked the look and features so much, and after a few months, it had the exact same problem. No more.

Very disappointing, beware.
